Brighton’s St John’s College Retains Good Ofsted Rating

In the heart of Brighton, St John’s College, a specialist institution for young adults with autism and learning disabilities, continues to shine in the realm of inclusive education. The college has proudly retained its ‘Good’ rating from Ofsted, a testament to the unwavering commitment and dedication of its staff and students.

Nestled on Walpole Road, St John’s College offers a nurturing environment for students aged 16 to 25, many of whom also have learning disabilities. The college, which provides both day and residential options, has been under the stewardship of the national charity, Ambitious About Autism, since last September.

The recent Ofsted inspection report lauded the college for its exceptional efforts in preparing students for adult life. The school leaders were praised for their ambition and for cultivating a culture of collaboration and high aspiration. The staff were recognised for their exceptional support of students’ personal development, providing a broad range of activities that prepare them for adulthood.

The report also highlighted the students’ respectful and polite demeanour, their positive attitude towards learning, and their ability to navigate the college with minimal support. The skilful use of assistive technology to facilitate communication and learning was also noted.

The report further underscored the college’s commitment to ensuring students understand important life topics such as healthy relationships and consent. This focus equips students to take an active role in society, reinforcing the college’s commitment to inclusive education.

Principal Karen Grist expressed her delight at the Ofsted recognition, attributing the success to the hard work of the staff and the college community. She said, “We are very pleased that Ofsted has recognised the work taking place at St John’s College to help our learners be themselves and realise their ambitions.”

St John’s College stands as a beacon of inclusive education in Brighton, demonstrating the power of ambition, collaboration, and a commitment to preparing young adults for a fulfilling life beyond the school gates.

Finding a mortgage

Buying a house is a massive investment and getting it just slightly wrong can be costly. Unless you have big savings, chances are you’re going to have to get a mortgage. It’s a loan secured against the property which means if you can’t meet the repayments the lender may repossess your home and sell it to get their money back.

The better you understand mortgages and everything to do with them, the better armed you will be to get the very best deal. With MMR in place, you’ll need to review your finances themselves before approaching possible lenders to see whether you can afford the monthly payments now and if interest rates go up, which they will…

What is MMR?

When it comes to finding a mortgage you have several options: mortgage brokers, individual banks or searching online. Again, it’s important to do your research. Searching online first, gives you a good idea of what’s available, but an independent mortgage broker can provide a more in-depth search and help you through the process. Being independent holds great value as they are not bias to any particular lenders or deals, they will give you their honest opinion and take away the stress of working your way through the mortgage market, they work for you to find you the best package to suit your requirements.
