Brighton, a vibrant city known for its lively beachfront and iconic pier, has added another feather to its cap. The city, along with Rye, has been recognised among the best seaside spots in the UK for food and drink, as per a recent survey by consumer champion, Which?
The survey, conducted earlier this year, involved over 4,700 members rating the best and worst seaside towns for 2024 across various categories, including food and drink. The surveyors rated everything from the beaches to the tourist attractions, with food and drink being a significant factor.
Out of the 126 locations, Rye secured a commendable 7th place, while Brighton, despite ranking 84th overall, scored a 4/5 in the food and drink category. This impressive score placed both towns among the top 21 seaside spots for food and drink. Rye secured the 5th place, while Brighton filled the 21st slot in this category.
Which? further highlighted that South East and Southern England are home to five of the highest-rated seaside towns for food. Rye was even labelled the best in the South East of England for this category. Despite being two miles inland, this medieval town is a seafood lover’s paradise, with Rye Bay Scallop Week being a major attraction.
Meanwhile, Brighton, known for its eclectic food scene, also received high praise. The city is a melting pot of culinary delights, offering everything from traditional fish and chips to more sophisticated fare, reflecting the city’s vibrant and diverse culture.
This recognition is a testament to the exceptional gastronomic experiences that Brighton and Rye offer, making them must-visit destinations for food lovers. So, whether you’re a local or planning a visit, be sure to indulge in the culinary delights these seaside spots have to offer.
